The Department of Athletics is seeking an Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Sports Service. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE),12-month, professional faculty position.

The Associate AD for Compliance and Sport Services oversees all aspects of the OSU Department of Athletics commitment to a culture of compliance and institutional control, including providing strategic leadership for NCAA and PAC-12 rules compliance for the Oregon State University community. The position works in concert with the university Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), Athletic Director, and Executive Deputy Athletic Director/COO. The position educates, informs, monitors, and interprets all issues associated with NCAA and PAC-12 rules compliance. Constituencies include, but are not limited to: coaches, university faculty, student-athletes, high school personnel, parents, NCAA, boosters, agents, conference office personnel, and the senior management team of the university.
The Associate AD for Compliance and Sport Services is a member of the senior staff for the Athletics Department and provides vision and guidance on the strategic planning associated with all NCAA-related compliance matters. This position may also represent the department on various national conference, and institutional committees. Provides supervision and leadership for all Compliance Office FTE, student workers, and interns.
The Associate AD for Compliance also provides strategic leadership in several athletic student service areas, including the administration of Enrollment, Financial Aid, Housing, and Eligibility and serves as the departmental liaison to University leadership in those areas.
Responsibilities include: Evaluating and strengthening the University’s efforts to maintain institutional control of the athletic program and making appropriate recommendations to the Athletics Director, Faculty Athletics Representative, and Executive Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer in regards to NCAA Governance matters and NCAA, Pac-12, and Institutional Regulatory Affairs, Policies and Legislation. This position serves as the Athletic Department’s Senior Compliance Professional.
Individual will oversee the execution of the NCAA rules education program for coaches, student-athletes, staff, internal and external partners. Individual will also oversee the execution of NCAA compliance monitoring systems including (but not limited to): recruiting, camps and clinics, amateurism, eligibility, awards, permissible benefits, personnel limitations, playing and practice seasons, and other NCAA related areas.
Individual has a leadership role in the strategic vision, process development, monitoring, and execution of all aspects associated with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), institutional revenue sharing, the College Sports Commission (CSC), NILGo, and other matters associated with student-athlete benefits. Proactively identifies solutions for new systems and practices associated with changes in legislation.
Individual will coordinate, monitor, and administer other pertinent NCAA areas including (but not limited to): Interpretation and collection of input on proposed NCAA Legislation; Coordination of the athletically-related financial aid program; Collection, monitoring and submission of APR and GSR data to NCAA; Other NCAA and Pac-12 research projects; and the preparation and submission NCAA and other waivers of NCAA legislation. Individual is also responsible for coordinating investigations of possible NCAA infractions and file reports as needed.
Individual will serve as liaison for all eligibility functions & processes including the NCAA Eligibility Center, the eligibility certification process, serving as an athletic contact for the Authorized Eligibility Signatures in the Office of the Deans, Registrar, and Academic Support for Student Athletes and overseeing the declaration of final eligibility lists in all sports. Individual will also coordinate the athlete admissions process.
Individual will serve as an athletics department liaison for: Academics for Student Athletes, Athletics Advisory Committee, NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative, Office of Audit, Risk, and Compliance, Office of Admissions, and the Office of Enrollment Management. Individual will coordinate athletic department use of Banner. Individual will also monitor the Title IX participation count for the athletic department.
Individual will report directly to the Executive Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer and will report regularly to the Athletic Director on matters of NCAA Compliance. Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred. In depth knowledge of NCAA regulations, interpretative processes, and institutional compliance concepts are also required.

Key Responsibilities
30% STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Serves as the Senior Compliance Administrator and provides vision and leadership for the Oregon State University NCAA Compliance Unit – this includes the establishment and maintenance of systems and mechanisms, policies and protocols for rules monitoring, staff education, and the reporting of violations should they occur. Provides a timely and accurate system of completing mandated forms, reports, assessments, and audits as required by various agencies. Evaluates the University’s efforts to maintain institutional control of the athletic program, and makes appropriate recommendations to the Athletics Director, Faculty Athletics Representative and Executive Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer in regard to NCAA Governance matters, as well as NCAA, Pac-12 and Institutional Regulatory Affairs, Policies and Legislation.
25% SUPERVISION
Provides leadership, supervision, training, direction and fosters an inclusive and equitable work environment for assigned staff. Plans, assigns and reviews work. Establishes goals for each position and assesses performance through completion of evaluations. Hires, trains, promote employees. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Addresses grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.
20% RULES EDUCATION, MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT OF NCAA RULES
Individual will oversee the development of the NCAA rules education program for coaches, student-athletes and staff internal and external to Athletics. Individual will also oversee the development of NCAA compliance monitoring systems including (but not limited to): recruiting, camps and clinics, amateurism, eligibility, awards & extra benefits, personnel limitations, playing and practice seasons, and other NCAA related areas.
Individual will file waivers of NCAA legislation where appropriate. Individual is also responsible for coordinating investigations of possible NCAA infractions and file reports as needed. Individual will also monitor the Title IX participation count for the athletic department.
10% ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSIONS
Assists the appropriate campus Registrar officer with initial and continuing eligibility for approximately 500 student-athletes, which includes the collection and reporting of the APR and GSR data reporting systems so information is generated in a timely manner. Coordinates with the appropriate Admissions officer regarding the admission process for all student-athletes. Provides clear communication and guidance for Academic Services Staff, campus faculty and advisors, and coaches about eligibility and admissions updates and issues.
10% FINANCIAL AID ADMINISTRATION
Coordinates work with the Financial Aid liaison at the university. Provides clear communication and information to appropriate personnel in a timely fashion. Establishes and maintains clear departmental protocols for renewal and non-renewal of all financial aid each academic year. Manages the NCAA National Letter of Intent Program.
5% BUDGET AND FISCAL MANAGEMENT
Manages unit/departmental budget. Creates policy and protocol for the use of funds associated with student-athlete benefits. Follows appropriate state and university regulations for appropriations of any monies.
What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 7 years working in a Division I Athletic Compliance Office
- Experience administering rules education on matters related to NCAA Division I Rules
- Experience working with the NCAA Eligibility Center on eligibility matters
- Experience investigating and reporting violations of NCAA legislation
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for student athletes, student workers, staff, coaches and colleagues.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months
What We Would Like You to Have
- Experience working in a Division 1 FBS athletic compliance office
- Membership and experience working with the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC) is preferred.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
This position is mostly sedentary but may be required to stand at games and events.
Some non-standard hours (i.e. weekends, evening events) will be required
