The Position
The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for providing students and families with financial aid and scholarship information, assisting with the financial aid application process, and advising students on financial planning and budgeting. The Advisor will also be responsible for conducting daily financial aid interviews and information sessions and maintaining accurate records of financial aid and scholarship awards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students and families seeking financial aid and scholarship information.
- Assist students and walk them through the financial aid application process, including completing the FAFSA and other required forms.
- Advise students on financial planning and budgeting, including developing payment plans and identifying alternative sources of funding.
- Conduct financial literacy workshops and presentations for students, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain accurate records of financial aid and scholarship awards.
- Monitor student accounts and resolve any issues related to financial aid or billing.
- Collaborate with other departments, including Admissions and Registrar, to ensure timely and accurate processing of financial aid and scholarship awards.
- Stay up-to-date on changes to financial aid regulations and policies.
- Attend financial aid and scholarship training sessions to stay current on best practices and new developments in the field.
- Other duties as assigned.
The minimum requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as finance, education, counseling, or business administration.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial aid programs and regulations, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and federal and state grants and loans.
- Experience: Previous experience working in a financial aid or student services capacity, particularly in a higher education setting.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to students and their families.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of computer systems and databases used in financial aid administration, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
