The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking an Associate Director, Community Connection and Engagement as part of our Science & Health Care team. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement and Impact, the Associate Director will support and manage the full life cycle of prioritized initiatives related to consumer/people with diabetes (PWD) strategy and deployment. Will focus on continuous needs assessment and development of corresponding resources. Involved in project management/delivery and management of corresponding stakeholders. Plays an active role in volunteer recruitment, training and stewardship of relationships. Stakeholders include people with diabetes, communities and healthcare systems. The Associate Director will be on a team that will emphasize community relationships, community understanding, and deepening the deliverables for the diabetes community from the organization. This leader will be relied upon for expertise on the needs of people with diabetes and peer-to-peer support.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Assess and survey needs of people with diabetes
  • Manage peer-to-peer activities and committees
  • Develop support programs and educational activities for PWD
  • Provide content expertise on diabetes from a community and PWD perspectives
  • Manage relationships with community stakeholders and peer organizations
  • Support, implement, and evaluate outcomes-based programs and initiatives
  • Evaluate diabetes community needs and coordinate resources to enhance existing initiatives
  • Support content development for grants and proposals in order to develop and grow new or existing funding sources
  • Support and maintain collaborative relationships with key volunteers, expert thought-leaders, and committees
  • Serve as an expert contributor in external meetings with peer organizations and others as deemed necessary
  • Monitor/support initiative budgets
  • Assist within a matrix and cross-functional team
  • Document, track, and maintain detailed project/program/initiative records
  • Work in partnership with the Director and the Project Management Office on the administration and monitoring of contracts
  • Work with marketing and other internal departments to deploy PWD initiatives and communications
  • Communicate project plans clearly and on a regular basis to effectively drive team performance
  • Work with Territory Directors and local community-based organizations to ensure that initiatives are fully understood and utilized and are included in pipelines and relevant performance objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of master's degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience/work history in Public Health, Health Education, Health Administration, Business Administration, Project Management, or other related field
  • At least five years of community health promotion experience
  • Specific diabetes knowledge
  • Specific peer-to-peer support knowledge and program delivery experience
  • Knowledge and experience in managing key stakeholder relationships
  • Detail oriented in the ability to plan, organize and implement programs and services
  • Business acumen for managing community-based programs
  • Successful track record in volunteer recruitment, development, or management with an emphasis on community organization and program delivery
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building effectiveness in one-on-one and group settings across all levels of corporate, medical and community leaders, volunteers and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve desired outcomes while responding to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Strong oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, online platform management and computer-based information systems
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with variable hours including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Strong desire to support people living with or at-risk-of diabetes
